Deacon Johny Kennedy

About Deacon Johny Kennedy:

Deacon Johny Kennedy enlisted in the US Army in 1962 in Detroit, Michigan. He served his country for more than 23 years until his retirement as a Sergeant First Class in 1985. He later went on to become a supervisor in the Army Threat Support Activity, and served another 17 years.

He currently serves as Chairman of the Deacon Board, and a member of the Board of Directors at Holy Light Church of God in Christ. Deacon Kennedy is thankful for the knowledge and skills God has given him. In 1996 he and his friends remodeled the inside of the Holy Light Church building, which he also continues to maintain to this date. The Church now serves as the headquarters for the Texas Western Jurisdiction Church of God in Christ Headquarters.

He is most visible, however, in the Missions Department that serves the church, as well as well as the Texas Western Jurisdiction. Over the years he has dedicated his time and resources to the church in order to aid the poor and elderly of the El Paso area. He maintains a regular schedule to receive and distribute bread, food, and clothing from El Paso donors to aid the needy. Through his commitment, Deacon Kennedy has assured the success of many special events by ensuring resources were available.

Deacon Kennedy is well-known and respected in the El Paso community for his giving spirit, commitment to helping others, and his overall Christian walk. Through the years, he has supported a wide range of non-profit, civic, and charitable programs and events. He had the opportunity to collaborate with local artists to design and build floats for the annual Sun Bowl Parade and other events.
Deacon Kennedy has lived in El Paso for over 43 years with his wife Beatrice, and their five children, Gregory, William, Jonathan, Rose, and Jacqueline.
